Stupid Firewall

 

Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know the firewall is stupid, a PITA, etc.  I’ve heard it all and ignored it all.  But, as you now know, it sure beats a situation when someone gets inside our network, so it isn’t going away anytime soon.

 

As I’ve mentioned from time to time, we have to update and upgrade the thing because the hordes are always trying to find new ways to breach it.  Sometimes when that happens, stranger things happen to sites we’re used to visiting on the internet.  No big deal.

 

To clear something through the firewall, create an iPower ticket with the URL (that’s a web address like www.wsh-law.com to the average mortal) in question and ask them to “whitelist” the site.  If they can, they will.  Or, just send an email to support@goipower.com.

 

We can’t clear everything because some sites are notorious for allowing bad stuff through.  Third party email sites, like Gmail and Yahoo, are particularly bad. It’s fine for your personal email, but a LOT of spam and malware gets sent to pretty much anyone using those kinds of email services.  This is why we isolate them and will continue to do so until the bad guys give up trying to make an easy buck.  So probably never.  You can access them (well – you should be able to access them) on your personal devices using the Guest Wifi network.
