Precise Directions Using The Internet

This tip was inspired by my longtime nemesis, Liddia P.  Since I moved to the other side of the office, we can tolerate each other if communications are limited to email and sometimes phone.   Today, breaking with tradition, she asked me for my advice on how to get people to the parking garage next to the Miami office.  For anyone that hasn’t tried it before, it is not intuitive.  I answered the question by identifying the precise street address of the entrance for GPS navigation even though there is no official address for the entrance.  It is 136 Andalusia Avenue, Coral Gables.  

So, how’d I do that?

The answer is Google maps.  If you zoom in so that you can make out the streets and buildings, you can click your mouse over a precise spot on the street.  When you do, you get a little upside-down teardrop shape and a pop-up box appears at the bottom of your screen.  The box shows a “street view” of the spot you clicked and tells you the street address of that spot, even if there is no  address the post office might deliver to.  

You can test your result by putting the address in your GPS – it should take you right to the spot you clicked on the map.
